Niranjan Phal (also known as China Phal, Malva Nut, or Pang Da Hai in Traditional Chinese Medicine; botanical name: Sterculia lychnophora / Scaphium scaphigerum) is a natural dried fruit known for its strong cooling (Shita Virya) and mucilaginous properties. When soaked in water, its outer layer swells into a soft, jelly-like pulp.
Heavy Bleeding (Menorrhagia): Highly regarded in Ayurveda as a natural astringent and cooling agent to control excessive menstrual bleeding, irregular periods, and spotting.
Menopause Support: Helps ease hot flashes, irritability, and abnormal bleeding associated with menopausal transition.
Bleeding Piles & Fissures: Soothes inflamed tissues, cools internal heat (Pitta), and reduces bleeding associated with hemorrhoids and anal fissures.
Constipation & Acidity: Rich in soluble gel-like fibers, it helps soften stool, eases bowel movements, and relieves acidity, heartburn, and stomach ulcers.
Sore Throat & Hoarseness: Acts as a demulcent (coats mucosal linings), making it a popular remedy for loss of voice, dry cough, throat inflammation, and pharyngitis.
Natural Coolant: Reduces excess internal body heat. Useful during summer or for conditions caused by excessive heat, such as nosebleeds (epistaxis), mouth ulcers, and heat rashes.
Soaking Method (Standard Preparation):
Take 1 piece of Niranjan Phal and wash it gently under clean water.
Soak it in 1 glass (approx. 200 ml) of water overnight or for 6–8 hours.
By morning, the fruit will absorb water and expand into a gelatinous mass.
Consumption:
Remove the hard outer seed skin and seed core.
Mix or mash the soft jelly-like pulp into the water.
Drink the water along with the jelly on an empty stomach in the morning.
Dosage: Consume in moderation (typically 1 fruit per day). Excessive use can cause diarrhea, bloating, or watery stools due to its high fiber and mucilage content.
Duration: Should generally be taken for short durations (a few days to a few weeks) to resolve specific heat or bleeding issues, rather than long-term continuous use, unless advised by a practitioner.
Pregnancy & Medical Conditions: Pregnant or breastfeeding women, or individuals on active medications, should consult an Ayurvedic doctor before starting use.
